About The Movie.

A 1999 American animated Christmas anthology comedy fantasy film, “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas” was created by Walt Disney Television Animation.

Three features are included in the movie: Donald Duck: Stuck on Christmas (starring Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Scrooge McDuck, and Huey, Dewey, and Louie), A Very Goofy Christmas (starring Goofy, Max, Pete, and the Beagle Boys), and Mickey and Minnie’s Gift of the Magi (featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Pluto). In the movie, other Disney characters also appear.

At the 5th Kecskemét Animation Film Festival in 1999, the movie took home the award for the Best Animated Feature Film. In 2004, Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, the sequel, was made available.

The Stories.

Donald Duck: Stuck On Christmas.

William Dean Howells’ short novella “Christmas Every Day,” published in 1892, served as inspiration. One Christmas morning, despite being told to wait for Daisy, Uncle Scrooge, and Aunt Gertie to come, Huey, Dewey, and Louie wake Chip and Dale and then walk downstairs to open their presents.

After receiving their new sleds from Uncle Donald, the boys go sledding without reading the accompanying note before having Christmas dinner, during which Donald screams at them to pick up some manners. The boys play with their new toys as Donald, Daisy, Uncle Scrooge, and Aunt Gertie perform holiday songs.

When it is time to go to bed later, the boys express their desire for Christmas to last all year round. When their wish comes true, they rejoice at first. But after a few days, kids start to become weary of Christmas and understand that every day will be the same.

By pulling practical jokes and other pranks, including replacing the cooked turkey with a live one at dinner, they decide to alter the course of events for the next day. Donald has a dreadful Christmas as it turns out.

The lads soon read the card that Donald and Daisy had earlier handed them. The card sends them love and says that Christmas is about spending time with family as much as receiving gifts. The lads resolve that to atone for their actions, they will make the following Christmas the best one ever. Donald seems uneasy as the boys show affection and joy by kissing Aunt Gertie and assisting Daisy with dinner. Donald confronts the lads while they are singing Christmas carols and demands to know what they are up to.

Daisy snaps at Donald in a furious manner, accusing him of ruining a lovely Christmas. Huey concedes, though, that Donald was correct and that he and his brothers were mistaken. A sailboat built out of their sleds is what Huey, Dewey, and Louie made for Uncle Donald.

Donald gives his nephews a sincere embrace of gratitude and expresses his genuine shock, embarrassment, and sentiment. The lads ultimately understand the true meaning of Christmas at the end of the following day, and the time loop is broken, ushering in the day following Christmas.

A Very Goofy Christmas.

Max and Goofy are sending Santa Claus a letter in the mail. When they return home, though, their neighbor Pete informs Max that Santa is fake because it is impossible for him to fly around the globe in a single night.

Things worsen when Max discovers that Goofy misled him and assumes the role of Santa Claus for some young children. While Max, still resentful, just wants to go on, Goofy is eager to show Max that Santa really does exist and stays up all night Christmas Eve to keep a watch out for him.

Goofy eventually loses up on Santa after mistaking a Beagle Boy (who was plundering Pete’s house) for him. Max then impersonates (a very miniature) Santa Claus in an effort to make him happy, doing everything Goofy did.

In the end, the real Santa arrives and delivers Max the item he had requested earlier in addition to covering Pete’s house, which is right next door, in snow. Goofy responds to Max’s question about whether Santa forgot his gift by saying that Max’s happiness is all he asks for each year.

It is noteworthy that the animation series “Goof Troop” is chronologically placed after this episode of “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas”.

Mickey and Minnie’s Gift of the Magi.

Adapted from O. Henry’s 1905 short story “The Gift of the Magi.” Mickey works at Crazy Pete’s Tree Lot because he wants to buy Minnie a gold chain for her one heirloom, her watch. Minnie works hard at her job in a department store to earn a bonus that she can use to buy Mickey something special for Christmas.

Mickey’s unscrupulous boss Pete steals all of Mickey’s money and fires him after he delivers a tiny tree to a poor family that cannot afford to purchase a special 10-footer tree. Then, unbeknownst to himself, Pete puts his lit cigar and Mickey’s money into his pocket, setting himself, the cash, and his trees—including the 10-footers, much to Pete’s dismay—on fire.

Mortimer Mouse, Minnie’s miserly boss, gives her a bonus that turns out to be a fruit cake. Mickey comes up with the idea that he can exchange his harmonica for the gold chain after performing music for a toy drive with the Firehouse Five. When he arrives, the store is about to close, and the owner is getting ready to leave. He is not interested in the harmonica, but after hearing Mickey play it, he becomes interested.

As they return to Minnie’s home, Mickey gives Minnie a case for her harmonica, which she no longer owns, and Minnie gives Mickey the chain for her watch, which he no longer owns. Mickey and Minnie can still enjoy a happy Christmas, though.

As in The Gift of the Magi original story, what matters is the thought that went into each gift.

The Finale.

The movie ends with a mashup of several songs, including “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” all of which feature Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Max, Donald, Daisy, Huey, Dewey, and Louie joining each other in the streets outside (somehow taking place in the early 19th-century).
