The Development Of Levi Ackerman.

Kuchel Ackerman, a prostitute who worked in the Underground and became pregnant by one of her customers, is the mother of Levi. When Kuchel’s older brother Kenny Ackerman visited her one day in the city, he discovered she had passed away. He discovered a young, unclean Levi seated in front of his mother’s bed there.

In a rare act of kindness, Kenny chose to look after him. He did the best he could to raise Levi, teaching him how to use a knife, how to get along with others, and aggressive behavior. Levi also developed his ability to tap into the inner strength he possessed as a member of the Ackerman family.

After some time, Kenny finally taught Levi what he knew. He did not, however, think of himself as a decent parent figure. Levi started a battle one day in the underground city, which he easily won. Kenny made the decision to leave Levi behind at that point because he felt confident he had given him the survival skills.

He then rose to prominence as a notorious thug in the underworld before leaving to join the Survey Corps. Despite their disagreements, he eventually turned out to be one of Erwin’s most trusted men.

His Appearance.

Levi has a deceptively young face, narrow, intimidating dull gray eyes with dark circles underneath them, and short, straight black hair styled in an undercut curtain. Despite his diminutive stature, the extensive use of vertical maneuvering equipment has given him a well-developed muscular frame. He frequently has a frown on his face or displays no emotion at all, which makes it challenging for people to discern what he is thinking.

He is typically seen wearing his Survey Corps uniform, which includes his distinctive white ascot and a light gray button-up shirt underneath. He furthermore dons the green hooded cloak of the Survey Corps while setting out on trips beyond the Walls.

When obliged to take time off work owing to an injury, Levi was once spotted dressed in a black suit, a simple white shirt, an ascot, and dress shoes. But he hasn’t worn an ascot since the coup d’état got underway. He just wore his vertical maneuvering equipment harness over casual clothing for the majority of the time that the Survey Corps was on the run from the military and monarchy.

For those who do not know about the coup d’état, a military insurrection against the Royal Government in reaction to mounting attempts to abolish the Survey Corps led to the coup d’état. The old monarchy was deposed as a result, and Historia Reiss was crowned Queen of the Walls, restoring the Reiss family, the real royal bloodline, to public prominence.

Levi now has multiple scars on his face, including one over his right eye, and is missing both the index and middle fingers on his right hand due to a close-encounter explosion caused by a Thunder Spear fired by Zeke Yeager.

His Personality.

Since his early years, Levi is referred to as a “clean freak” by those who know him because he prefers to keep both his surroundings and himself clean. He has been observed wiping his blood-smeared swords while still on the battlefield because he dislikes getting either himself or his equipment dirty. He won’t be afraid to get dirty, though, if he thinks it’s necessary.

Levi is not a particularly friendly person despite his obsession with hygiene. He rarely displays emotion, which gives the appearance that he is frigid. His speech is frequently direct and aggressive, and he frequently makes crude or inappropriate comments. He is not above inciting or disparaging individuals who disagree with him or anger him. His sense of humor is often crude, hurtful, and dark. He is unnerving to a lot of people because of all of this.

Levi put a lot of trust in his companions in his pre-Survey Corps criminal life, when he resided in the Underground City, just as he would later do with his subordinates, but he refused to follow instructions from anybody (as Petra Ral tells Eren). But after joining the Survey Corps, he developed a deep respect for Commander Erwin Smith, whose directives he gladly obeys because he believes in Erwin’s plans for the Corps.

Levi will only submit to those he respects, and he has no issue displaying open disdain for authority from those outside of this group. He called the merchants “pigs” at Eren’s tribunal and warned the Military Police that they weren’t qualified to handle Eren, making fun of numerous MPs by noting that they had never engaged in combat with or even seen a single Titan.

They even backed off when he sardonically suggested that they join the Survey Corps. He openly resents the majority of the MPs for their ongoing efforts to discredit the Survey Corps, as well as possibly due to the criminal life he led prior to joining the Corps.

Levi has a deep sense of morality and empathy, despite the fact that he rarely displays them. The high emphasis he places on protecting human life is one of his most distinguishing traits; this is especially evident in light of the information that all Titans may have previously been people. He is deeply disturbed by the idea that he has been killing people inadvertently for all this time.

Even though Levi had no hatred toward Eren, he was prepared to use force in order to save his life at the tribunal, and eventually he asked Eren if he regretted the beating. Since Levi himself has made it clear that he detests needless deaths, he orders his soldiers to exercise caution in order to avoid mistakes that could result in their deaths.

He is genuinely concerned about the welfare of his subordinates due to their dangerous career and his own values. This is demonstrated multiple times, including when Levi was instructed to leave Wall Rose early at the conclusion of the disastrous 57th Expedition because so many of his soldiers had perished in vain. Later, in order to save Mikasa, who had pursued her wildly in search of retribution, and to rescue Eren from her mouth, he sacrificed his life against the Female Titan.

Petra’s father approached him as they re-entered the gate, joking about his daughter’s unwavering commitment to the Survey Corps. Levi was too stricken with grief to speak; he was unaware that his daughter had just been killed. Levi remarked that he carries his slain teammates’ will and that their shared animosity toward the Titans further fuels his will to fight. Levi was obviously moved by the Female Titan’s execution of his whole initial Special Operations Squad.

Levi is somewhat independent even if he obeys Erwin. His single attacks on Titan often involve minimal direct assistance from other warriors (due to him usually assigning them to hunt other Titans in the vicinity). Levi does not view himself as a leader in the same way as Erwin does, despite the fact that he is respected by many people and does not think twice about giving commands when they are required. He frequently defers to his subordinates in making judgments because he appears to not value hierarchy in general.

Because he has demonstrated his capacity to complete difficult jobs, few people will contest his claims that only he can handle them.

Levi is devoted to and sympathetic toward his friends, but he slaughters the Titans without mercy and with blatant disdain. Levi can momentarily pause and ponder if the Titans are still conscious of their crimes while they are imprisoned in their Titan forms, but Levi has shown little reluctance in murdering them when they are former allies and subordinates. When interacting with people he believes to be enemies of humanity,

Levi has the capacity to act in a sadistic or even vengeful manner. For instance, when the Female Titan was kidnapped, Levi revealed how much he delighted in seeing her suffer and gave gruesome details of his plan to mutilate her body.  He has also tortured Djel Sannes with Hange Zoë, punching him, and twisting his already broken nose.

He sadistically declared that he would impale Zeke Yeager with a Thunder Spear and torment him as punishment for his crimes against Paradis and the Survey Corps after defeating Zeke Yeager a second time. Except for bloodlust, Levi shows no other emotion at these moments as evidenced by the methodical way he slice apart  Zeke’s legs.

Even though they are fellow members of the corps, Levi is occasionally known to lose his composure and use violence or threats to influence others.

He demonstrated this tendency, for instance, by telling Historia Reiss to assume the role of queen when it was put to her. He catches her and lifts her off the ground while choking her after she shakily declares that she is unfit, warning her to fight back if she does not like it. He then throws her to the ground and commands her to make a choice, but when she does, he becomes calm once more.
