Netflix is the most popular streaming service, despite the fact that streaming providers are getting more and more competitive.
The wide variety of Netflix Original episodes and movies, like Wednesday and Stranger Things, which both surpassed the record for the most viewing hours on the platform, are partially to blame for this. However, in the first week following its publication, Wednesday triumphed.

Wednesday Vs Stranger Things.
The enormous quantity and unwavering quality of Netflix’s original programming is one of the reasons why the streaming service has been able to maintain its popularity despite being in such a crowded market.
Netflix alone ordered approximately 126 “Netflix Original” programs and movies in 2016.
The Crown, The Witcher, The Umbrella Academy, Bridgerton, Big Mouth, Cheer, and a plethora of other well-known shows are among the Netflix Originals available as of 2022.
Wednesday and Stranger Things are two of the most well-liked Netflix Originals in the adolescent drama and drama comedy categories. After its 2016 premiere, Stranger Things swiftly gained a global following.
On July 1, 2022, the second installment of Stranger Things’ fourth season was made available on Netflix. Within its first week, the show had amassed 335 million viewing hours worldwide, breaking the previous record for Netflix.
Following the debut of the first season of the show on November 23, 2022, Wednesday quickly exceeded this mark with 341.2 million hours of viewing, becoming the greatest opening week for an English series in Netflix history.

Wednesday Better Than Stranger Things?
This does not necessarily imply that Wednesday is superior to Stranger Things, even though it may have broken the record for the most viewing hours in the first week of the show’s release.
The target audiences for Wednesday and Stranger Things are very different, and Wednesday heavily favors nostalgia while Stranger Things favors science fiction tropes.
The Netflix original series Stranger Things has a devoted fan base, and after 28 days of availability, the show reached 1.15 billion hours of viewing. Like all of the show’s prior seasons, Stranger Things’ fourth season was widely praised by both critics and fans of the franchise.
In 83 countries around the world, the series quickly rose to the Top 10 of Netflix’s most watched lists, tying Wednesday’s result and demonstrating just how popular the program is.
Why Did Wednesday Beat Stranger Things?
The series’ impressive cast and crew are unquestionably responsible for Wednesday’s initial high viewership.
While Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday Addams in the lead role, has received praise for her outstanding performance, the supporting cast, which includes well-known actors like Gwendoline Christie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Christina Ricci, and even Tim Burton on the production team, undoubtedly drew a sizable audience in the beginning.
Beyond its stellar ensemble, The Addams Family appeals to a wide range of demographics and many people who grew up with the earlier television series and motion pictures in the franchise.

The Production Of Wednesday TV Series.
Tim Burton was tasked with directing the 1991 movie during pre-production, but he ultimately declined owing to schedule difficulties with Batman Returns, which led to Barry Sonnenfeld accepting the position. Illumination Entertainment bought the underlying rights to the Addams Family illustrations, it was revealed in March 2010.
Using the original illustrations by Charles Addams as inspiration, a stop-motion animated movie was originally intended. The movie was slated to have Burton co-write, co-produce, and potentially even direct. The movie was reportedly scrapped in July 2013, and according to Burton, this was because the studio preferred a computer-animated approach to the stop-motion technique.
In 2019, showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough began creating story concepts. They then bought the intellectual property rights before drafting a pilot script that they then handed to Burton. When Burton saw the script, they were surprised to see how intrigued he was right away.
In response to a question about why he chose to work on the project, Burton said that the script and the main character’s viewpoint “spoke to me about how I felt about school and how I felt about your parents, and how you feel as a person. It gave the Addams Family a different kind of reality. It was an interesting combination.”
According to Millar, the creative team felt it was “very important” to avoid copying the earlier movies and 1964 television series. The series’ main topics were decided upon by Millar and Gough to be the contrast of “outsiders” and “normies,” as well as criticism of colonial Americans.
Wednesday was first revealed as an undisclosed Addams Family project directed by Burton in October 2020. Burton would serve as the series’ director, and MGM Television would handle production. In addition to becoming executive producers alongside Gail Berman, Jon Glickman, and Andrew Mittman, Gough and Millar would administer the show.
Netflix ordered a total of eight episodes for the production in February 2021. The series was being produced by 1.21, the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, Glickmania, and Kayla Alpert as of August 2021.
Four of the eight episodes were directed by Burton, who was referred to as making his “first real foray into television.” The other two episodes were directed by Gandja Monteiro and James Marshall. Colleen Atwood, a frequent collaborator of Burton, was hired as the costume designer.

In order to reflect the character’s ancestry, which was already incorporated into the series’ storyline, the creative team looked for a Latina to play Wednesday Addams.
Jenna Ortega, who is of Mexican and Puerto Rican origin, was chosen for the part in May 2021. On their first Zoom call together, the creative team realized that “nobody else on this planet” was more qualified to play the character, according to Millar. Ortega admitted that her prior experience on Disney Channel shows aimed at teenagers made her originally hesitant to join the project.
Beginning in early August of that year, Catherine Zeta-Jones was cast as Morticia Addams in an undisclosed role, while Luis Guzmán was cast as Gomez Addams as a guest star. Later that month, many other famous actors and actresses were announced to be cast as series regulars.
Prior to being hired as Wednesday’s roommate Enid, Myers initially tried out for the lead part.
Isaac Ordonez, George Burcea, Tommie Earl Jenkins, Iman Marson, William Houston, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Oliver Watson, Calum Ross, and Johnna Dias Watson were cast in recurring parts in September, while Gwendoline Christie and Victor Dorobantu were added as stars.
Since Birch left the show in December 2021, it’s unknown what will happen to her character, dorm mother Tamara Novak. The actor who portrayed Wednesday Addams in the 1991 film and its 1993 follow-up, Christina Ricci, was cast as a series regular in March 2022, taking Birch’s place in a comparable role.
Ricci, who had previously worked with Tim Burton on the 1999 film Sleepy Hollow, said of her casting, “I was really flattered to be asked and to be asked by Tim [Burton]”. Due to potential scheduling difficulties with the Showtime series Yellowjackets, Ricci almost declined the part.
That year’s Uncle Fester was revealed to be played by Fred Armisen in October, and Ricci’s portrayal of Marilyn Thornhill was established.
The Romanian town of Buşteni in the Southern Carpathians served as the location for filming from September 2021 to March 2022. Due to the production’s hurried filming schedule, Ortega described her work on the series as “very stressful and confusing” and “the most overwhelming job I’ve ever had.”
During filming, Ortega avoided discussing the role with Ricci in order to give it her own distinct interpretation. She created her own dance routine to the Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck,” drawing ideas from Siouxsie Sioux, Bob Fosse, and 1980s goth dance club videos.
Ortega studied the cello, kayaking, fencing, archery, and German in order to get ready for her part. The kayaking training, which involved the entire ensemble and a dozen stuntmen competing against one another for an hour every day, began as early as 5:30 am, according to actress Joy Sunday.

Longtime Burton colleague Danny Elfman reportedly joined the project in December 2021 to write the original theme and co-compose the score with Chris Bacon.
On November 23, 2022, Lakeshore Records released the soundtrack for Wednesday. It includes a selection of the series’ original score, which was written by Elfman and Bacon, as well as a number of pop songs, such as “Paint It Black” by the Rolling Stones, “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica, and “Physical” by Dua Lipa.
Tony Sokol of Den of Geek referred to the soundtrack as “a major character, not only thematically, but as an emotional delivery system,” making “the chills creepier, the jokes funnier, and the tingles tangible” in his review of the series.
According to Amelia Emberwing, who wrote for IGN, Elfman’s music and Burton’s writing “[going] together like peanut butter and jelly” and the score as a whole is “a stunner.”
