One Piece by Eiichiro Oda has a fictional character named Tony Tony Chopper. He joined the Straw Hat Pirates as their fifth member and serves as their physician. As the series’ mascot, he is regularly depicted on official merchandise.
He has the power to change into a full-sized reindeer or a reindeer-human hybrid thanks to the Zoan-type Human-Human Fruit. He can execute even more transformations for a brief period of time thanks to a self-created substance he calls Rumble Ball.
Chopper, who was rejected by his herd due to his blue nose and consumption of the Devil Fruit, is saved by Drum Island’s charlatan Doctor Hiriluk. He is devastated to learn that Hiriluk has a fatal illness as he works on a potion that would turn snow into cherry blossoms. Doctor Kureha takes him in as his mentor after Hiriluk’s passing.
Kureha uses Hiriluk’s potion to transform the wintry sky into cherry blossoms after the Straw Hats land on Drum Island and take Chopper with them. This completes Hiriluk’s life’s work. When complimented, the beloved mascot displays agitation and occasionally yells at the complimenter to quit attempting to make him happy. When other characters mistake him for a Tanuki, he vehemently corrects them, pointing out that he is a Tonakai (Japanese for “Reindeer”). This is a recurring gag in the series.

Tony Tony Chopper’s Creation.
Design And Characteristics.
One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda developed Tony Tony Chopper, who first appeared in the 134th chapter of the series, “Dr. Kureha,” which was first released in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on May 8, 2000.
Chopper appeared as a bipedal reindeer in the Straw Hats’ original concept art, with the notation that he was a doctor but “an idiot otherwise.” Later, his default shape would be altered to be more petite and adorable. Oda wanted to create a mascot that is both adorable and incredibly frail but also brave, so he created this character.
Oda intended to demonstrate that family need not be blood relatives by using Chopper’s backstory.
Chopper was originally 15 years old, and according to Oda, he was born on December 24. When a fan questioned what the Straw Hat Pirates’ nationality would be if One Piece were based in reality, Oda said that Chopper would be Canadian.
The cute mascot is initially branded as a monster, which causes him to be shunned. He is extremely gullible and has the propensity to believe anything that is said to him, including Usopp’s ludicrously false and exaggerated lies. The cute mascot can’t help but show his emotions and adores receiving compliments. He accepts his position after the time skip because he wants to be a “monster for Luffy.”

Chopper’s Power.
Tony Tony Chopper may change into one of three forms thanks to the power of the Zoan-type Human-Human Fruit: a human, a human-reindeer hybrid, or his ordinary reindeer form. He created a medication he calls the Rumble Ball that, in addition to his regular transformations, gives him access to four other temporary transformations.
Chopper cannot consume a second ball for six hours without experiencing negative effects, most notably losing control over his transformations for the three minutes of his second Rumble Ball, despite the fact that the main effects of the rumble ball only last three minutes.
When Chopper eats three Rumble Balls in a six-hour period, he becomes monstrously large and loses all control. While Monster Point, this incredibly potent form, has the drawback of depleting his life energy, it is also extremely powerful. After the two-year time skip, Chopper can change into six different forms without the aid of a rumble ball, however, he can still use one to manage his Monster Point.
Later on, with the assistance of their adversary and temporary prisoner Caesar Clown, Chopper was able to enhance the recipe and extend the effects of the Rumble Ball ten times to last for thirty minutes at a time.
Chopper can communicate with both humans and other animals because he is an animal that consumed Human-Human Fruit.

People’s Reactions.
Critical Reception.
On a list of the ten cutest anthropomorphic anime animals, Sean Cubillas of Screen Rant placed Chopper third. He wrote, “It makes sense that the best-selling manga of all time would also have one of the cutest, talking animal characters of all time. Though berated by humans as a monster and even as an outcast by other reindeer, Tony Tony Chopper hasn’t become anything less than a friendly, welcome face for all the fans. It also helps that there’s just a lot of One Piece merch centered around him.”
Cubillas also wrote in a review: “Tony Tony Chopper on design alone is already plenty iconic. He’s meant to be the mascot for the series and after seeing all of the One Piece merch with his face on it, he’s done a pretty good job. The scene to define him, however, comes in his backstory. After tragically losing Dr. Hiluluk to a political assassination, his own poison mushroom soup, and an undisclosed terminal illness, Chopper runs to Dr. Kureha’s office waving Hiluluk’s pirate flag. He begs the old woman to teach him, proclaiming that he wants to be a doctor that can cure any disease.”
Chopper’s character was praised as one of the best in the series in an IGN manga review, and it was noted that he could be both emotional and humorous.
Fans and critics alike have, however, criticized Chopper’s use as a mascot since they feel that he is too stereotyped and underdeveloped in comparison to the other Straw Hats.
Dyler Crews explained, “Even before Pikachu solidified the concept of a manga and anime franchise having an adorable mascot in the ’90s, the trope was already old hat. Looking to cash in on merchandising, Oda simplified Tony Tony Chopper’s design to make the character resemble a plush toy. Although Oda didn’t relegate Chopper to mascot status only, giving the character an essential job within the crew, Chopper’s utility in the story diminished as his marketability grew. Having the voice actor behind Pikachu didn’t help either.”
